COLLECTIONS CONTAINING MAPS

The following list identifies the main collections in the UAA Archives and Special Collections Department containing maps. The list contains modified collection descriptions developed from a key word search of the collections descriptions. The heading for each entry is the same as that found in the Collections List and in the collection description. The text of the description has been modified to provide specific information on the maps and other similar materials in the collection. Detailed lists of these materials may be found in the inventories attached to the collection descriptions. Those portions of the inventories which relate to maps may be attached to these abbreviated descriptions at some point in the future.

The following list includes collections which are substantially processed and available for research use. Future additions will be made after the materials are processed or when discrete items, unlisted in inventories, are located. Those university records series, which contain maps, will be also be included in the future. Modifications in the count will take place from time to time for the sake of uniformity and in order to arrive at a more specific count.

ALASKA CAPITAL SITE SELECTION COMMITTEE. Maps; 1975. .5 cu. ft. List.
This collection consists of 23 maps prepared for the Capital Site Selection Committee in 1975. There are maps of eleven sites studied by the committee including Willow, Larson Lake, and Mount Yenlo. The maps are arranged in alphabetical order.

ALASKA. LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR. DIVISION OF ELECTIONS. Election Returns and Election Pamphlets; 1958-1992. .7 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection includes 21 election district and precinct maps (1974, 1981, 1982).

ALASKA PACIFIC CONSOLIDATED MINING CO. INDEPENDENCE MINE. Records; ca. 1930-1987. 63 cu. ft. Inventory and Series List.
This collection contains the records of the Alaska Pacific Consolidated Mining Company. The collection is divided into three sections. Section 2, the A.J. Krieter Addition, contains 321 geology level maps which depict locations and levels of mining activity. Section 3, Historic Files and Photographs, contains 24 maps relating to Independence Mine, Hatcher Pass, mining in the area, activities and personnel at Independence Mine, and other subjects.

ANCHORAGE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Records; 1946-1984. 7.8 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection contains the records of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce. The collection is divided into ten series. There are 8 maps of Anchorage and Juneau in Series 9 (Publications, 1969-1984) and Series 10 (General Reference Material, 1965-1984).

ANCHORAGE ENGINEERING GEOLOGY EVALUATION GROUP. Preliminary Report and Maps; 1964. .25 cu. ft. List.
The Anchorage Engineering Geology Evaluation Group was formed two days after the 1964 Earthquake in Alaska. The group mapped and outlined slide areas, and areas of damage and potential danger. The collection includes the group's preliminary report on earthquake damage in the Anchorage area and 39 maps depicting the earthquake geology of the Anchorage area.

ANCHORAGE WATERWAYS COUNCIL. Records; 1979-1991. 1 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of the chronological files of the Anchorage Waterways Council as well as other related materials concerning waterways in Anchorage. Included are 2 maps and various partial maps and drawings concerning a proposed Chester Creek Spawning Channel and Creek Realignment.

THEODORE PAUL BANK, II (1923-1981). Papers; n.d., 1901, 1917-1980. 11.9 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of records relating to Ted Bank's activities as an anthropologist and explorer. Included among the papers are 12 maps relating to his Aleutian expeditions and digs.

LEON FRANK BARNARD (d. 1917). Union Dues Receipt and Alaska Trip Souvenirs; n.d., 1904. .1 cu. ft. List.
Leon Frank Barnard was a member of the unsuccessful Baldwin-Ziegler Polar Expedition to the North Pole from Tromse, Norway (1901-1902). He visited Alaska in 1904. The collection contains papers relative to his stay in Alaska. Included among the papers is 1 Northwest Commercial Company precinct map of the arctic gold fields of the Seward Peninsula (1904).

NEIL RISSER BASSETT (1928-1990). Papers; 1940-1991. 23.5 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection primarily consists of papers which Neil Bassett accumulated during his career with the BLM. The collection contains at least 42 maps. These relate mainly to land status, land claims, and oil and gas leasing. Over 20 are from the National Oceanic Survey and the Coast and Geodetic Survey.

WILLIAM K. BOARDMAN (1915-1993). Papers; ca. 1940-1985. 19.2 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of personal and business papers of William Boardman. Among the various series and files, there are 10 maps relating to several topics including Alaska ferries, fisheries, the university, and a trip abroad.

JOHN JAMES BRENNAN (1935-1999). Papers; 1919-1987. 2.3 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of the papers of an Alaskan geologist and Anchorage native. The collection contains: six maps and plans of the Opal and Markup prospects near Chitina, Alaska; and two maps of the generalized geology of a portion of the North Foothills Section of the North Slope of Alaska. The maps and plans of the Opal and Markup prospects include: a map of the lode claim groups made using an area quadrangle map; a surface drill hole plan; a composite surface plan; a horizontal loop survey; a magnetometer survey; and a map of the geology of the claim group.

WILSON W. BRINE. Papers; 1919-1926, 1938. .5 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection primarily consists of the diaries, letters, and photos of Wilson W. Brine created while he was serving as Clerk of the St. Michael Board of the U.S. Steamboat Inspection Service. The collection contains 1 xerographic copy of a map of the White Pass and Yukon Route railroad.

BRISTOL BAY NATIVE ASSOCIATION. Records; 1968-1979. 25 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection consists primarily of the administrative records, correspondence, and subject and agency files of the Bristol Bay Native Association for the period 1968-1979. Among the files are 18 maps of different parts of Alaska. Some of these are marine traffic and game management maps.

DOROTHY AND GRENOLD COLLINS. (1909-1999; 1907-1992). Papers; 1900-1994. 12.9 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection contains the papers, photographs, and motion picture film of Grenold Collins, and his wife, Dorothy Collins. It is divided into twelve series. There are 5 hand drawn maps in Subseries 1d of fishing and hunting areas in southeast Alaska in his personal papers. Also, there are 7 maps in Series 7, Maps, mainly concerning Alaska.

ILA M. COPLEY. (Ak. Hist. Soc. Col.). Papers and Photographs; 1942, 1948-1950. .1 cu. ft. List.
This collection relates to Ila M. Copley's stay in Alaska (1948-1950). The collection contains 2 Alaska tourist maps (1942, 1948).

EDWIN B. CRITTENDEN (b. 1915). Papers; 1941-1988. 21 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection consists of papers relating to the professional activities of Edwin B. Crittenden, architect. Included among the papers are 10 maps relating to the capital move, 1 National Geographic map of the Eastern Soviet Union, and several copies of a map relating to the north polar region to be used for an article on cold climate construction.

FREDERICK JOHN DATE (d. 1956). Papers, Photographs, and Artifacts; n.d., 1833, 1846, 1899-1956, 1976. 1.25 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection consists of papers, publications, photographs, and artifacts relating to Fred Date's life and activities in Alaska. There are 3 maps in the collection. One is a hand drawn map of the trail from the Alatna River to the Yukon River near Tanana and two are maps of Alaska by Kroll.

PETER DINKELSPIEL. Alaska Highway Photo Album and Papers; n.d., 1948, 1949, 1951. .2 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of a photo album, related papers, and publications from Peter Dinkelspiel's trip up the Alaska Highway in the summer of 1949. The collection contains 1 trip map of the Alaska Highway.

HARRY AND RUTH DOBSON. Papers; 1906-1973. .35 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists mainly of the papers of Harry Dobson relating to his mining activities. They include 3 maps of Dobson's placer claim, the Seward Peninsula, and Alaska.

LAWRENCE AND OLGA DOHENY FAMILY. Papers; 1917-1980. 21.85 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection contains about 30 maps. Part I, Larry Doheny's Papers, includes at least eight maps relating to mining. In addition, there are about 22 maps in Part VI, Printed/Published Matter, relating to various locations in Alaska.

RUSSELL W. DOW (1915-1992). Papers. 1917-1992. 18.5 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of the papers and photographs of Russ Dow. Included among the papers are 5 maps. They are an Alaska Railroad map (1940), an Alaska Highway map (1945), maps of Mount Crillon and Mount McKinley, and a map of Mount Lucania.

RAYMOND F. FARWELL, JR. (b. 1918). Naval Reserve Officer's Papers; 1941-1959, 1965. 2 cu. ft. Map List.
The collection consists of the military papers of a U. S. Naval Reserve officer who served in Alaskan waters during World War II. The collection contains 26 large nautical maps, most by the U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, primarily of Alaska from Southeast to the Aleutian Islands.

THELMA FETTERS. Wartime Alaska Scrapbook; 1942-1943. .2 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the contents of a World War II era scrapbook of photographs and clippings on Alaskan subjects kept by Thelma Fetters from 1942 to 1943. The miscellaneous items from the scrapbook include 2 small maps (United States and Alaska).

FRED WILDON FICKETT (1857-1928). Papers; 1877-1906. 3.5 cu. ft. Published guide; Series Descriptions.
This collection contains the papers of Fred Wildon Fickett, soldier, explorer, and member of the U. S. Army exploratory expedition to Alaska in 1885. Series 7 contains 2 maps relating to Alaska. One is a U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey General Chart of Alaska (1897); the other is a U. S. G. S. Map of the Cordova Quadrangle (1951).

RICHARD TIGHE HARRIS FAMILY. Papers; 1853-1969. 3.5 cu. ft. Published guide and Series list.
The collection contains the papers documenting the life and activities of Richard Harris and of his children, especially William Harris. Series 6 of the collection contains 8 maps including the map which Harris and Juneau used on their prospecting trip in southeast Alaska in 1880. Except for a map of the United States (1881), all of the maps relate to Alaska (1880, 1885, 1897, 1898, 1904, 1941).

CHARLES S. HARVARD. Papers; 1901, 1906, 1909-1971, 1975. 4.3 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection contains the papers of Charles S. Harvard. Included are biographic materials; correspondence; tide notes and mathematical tables; and papers and maps relating to the Alaska Railroad. In series 4, there are 27 maps and plans mainly concerning the Anchorage, Alaska, and the Alaska Railroad.

JOHN S. HELLENTHAL. Papers; 1907, 1917, 1923, 1941, 1950-1966, 1969-1973, 1980, 1984, 1987-1988. 4.5 cu. f. Inventory.
This collection contains papers relating to John Hellenthal's personal and political activities, as well as his work as a member of the State House of Representatives. There are 7 maps in Series 5, Maps. These mainly relate to Anchorage, the Kenai Peninsula, and oil.

CHRISTINE A. HELLER (1907-1990). Papers; n.d., 1895, 1902, 1905, 1907, 1909-1910, 1916, 1920, 1924-1977, 1980-1982. 26.67 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists primarily of materials relating to Christine Heller's professional work as a nutritionist and to her work in botany. Series 8, Maps and Miscellaneous, contains 5 maps. They include 3 relating to Alaska and 2 relating to Massachusetts.

DAVID M. HICKOK (b. 1924). Papers; n.d., 1923, 1933, 1939-1940, 1952, 1955-1956, 1958-1959, 1962-1990, 1992. 15.2 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists primarily of papers related to David M. Hickok's professional work with the Federal Field Committee, the Sea Grant Program, and the Arctic Environmental Information and Data Center (AEIDC). Series 12, Edwardsen, et al vs. Morton et al, contains 93 maps relative to the case.

GRACE (1921-1971) AND JOHN VINCENT HOEMAN (1936-1969). Papers; 1952-1979. 8.25 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of the personal papers of an Alaskan mountaineering couple. The collection contains a large but incomplete set of Alaska topographic quadrangle maps.

HOLMES FAMILY. Papers; 1915-1966. 1 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection consists of the various papers of Theresa M. Holmes. The papers include 2 maps: a map of the claim of J. H. Muiry on Chititu Creek (n.d.) and a map of the location of fire plugs at the Kennecott property (1926).

ANDREW HOPE AND ELLEN HOPE HAYS. Papers; 1947-1984. 18 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of papers relating to Andrew Hope and Ellen Hope Hays' activities in native and community organizations and affairs. Series 1 contains correspondence and papers relating to the Central Council of Tlingit-Haida (CCTH) law suit. Among these papers are 12 maps relating to land use and localities in southeast Alaska.

JAMES B. HOXIE (1908-1971). World War II Photograph Album; 1944-1945. .6 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the album of a U. S. Army Signal Corps soldier who served in Seward and Fairbanks. The album contains: a folding map of Seattle published by the Newman-Burrows Co., Inc. (14 X 22 inches); an Alaska Communication System map of Officer-in-Charge areas; 11 X 17 inches); an Alaska highways map from 1945 (12 X 14 inches).

KATHLEEN "PAT" JACKSON (Ak. Hist. Soc. Col.). Alaska Tourist Photograph Album; 1934. .25 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the album of a tourist on the S. S. Aleutian. The collection contains a small map of the Alaska Railroad and a color Alaska Steamship Company Line map with inset of the Copper River and Northwest Railway and the Alaska Railroad (Copyright 1917).

LOIS LITTLE. Alaska Trip Photograph Album; 1931, 1935. .25 cu. ft. List.
The collection consists of Lois Little's photograph album concerning her August 1931 trip from Sioux City, Iowa, to Southeast Alaska. The collection contains an Alaska Steamship Company map of Alaska by the Poole Brothers of Chicago, copyright 1917.

TERRY MARTIN (b.1936). Legislative Papers; 1978-1998. 15.9 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of papers relating to Terry Martin's activities as a state representative. Series 1, Alaska Railroad Corporation, contains 57 maps showing Alaska Railroad reserve lands. Also, there are 45 maps of Alaska voting districts in Series 15, Reapportionment.

ALAN G. MAY (1895-1993). Papers; 1902-1990. 10.6 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of the papers of amateur archeologist Alan May. Series 1, personal journals/scrapbooks, contains: a trench map of Wytschaete from May's service in World War I (1916); two oversize archeological site maps from the Smithsonian Institution excavations of Uyak Bay on Kodiak Island (1936); and various other maps within the journals from the Smithsonian Institution's archeological expeditions to the Aleutian Islands, led by Ales Hrdlicka (1936-1938).

CHRISTINE M. McCLAIN (1915-1989). Papers; 1907-1992. 20.3 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists primarily of papers relating to Christine McClain's work as a freelance writer. Among the numerous series are 3 maps: an Alaska Communications System Chart of Alaska (1955), a map of the Turnagain Heights Landslide Area (1964), and a map depicting Oil Industry Activities, Cook Inlet Basin (1965).

MRS. JOHN F. MERCER. Nome Trip Scrapbook; 1898-1904.
.2 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of the contents of Mrs. John F. Mercer's original scrapbook of items, primarily concerning she and her husband's trip to Nome from 1900 to 1901. Among the items in the collection is 1 map entitled "Tourist's Map of Vancouver and N. Westminster" (1898).

MILDRED E. (1910-1998) AND ROBERT K. MOWRER (1907-2000). Tourist Photograph Album; 1941. .4 cu. ft. Photograph List.
The collection consists of a Lancaster, Pennsylvania couple's album from their trip to the western U.S. and Alaska in 1941. The album contains two Alaska Steamship Company maps.

JOSEPH H. MURRAY (1877-1944). Papers, 1909-1933. .5 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of correspondence, legal papers, bills and receipts, and miscellaneous printed and other materials relating to the life and mining interests of Joseph H. Murray. Among the papers are 2 maps. The first is a map of the Placer Ground on Young Creek. The second is a U. S. G. S. map of the Nizina District (1911).

NATIONAL AUDUBON SOCIETY. ALASKA REGIONAL OFFICE. Subject Files; n.d., 1970-1981. 2.45 cu. ft. List.
The collection consists of the D-2 lands subject files of the Alaska Regional Office of the National Audubon Society. Among the files are 4 maps relating to the lands issues (1979) and 1 U. S. G. S. map of the Teller area (1950).

GEORGE B. NELSON (1889-1980). Papers; 1908-1979. 3 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection consists of diary notes, reminiscences, correspondence, clippings, memorabilia, and photographs of miner and guide, George B. Nelson. Among the papers are 3 maps of Alaska (1915, 1927, 1928).

J. B. AND C. T. O'NEILL. Papers; n.d., 1929-1947. .5 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection consists of correspondence, mining records, and business papers of J. B. and Charles T. O'Neill, merchants. Among the files is 1 map of Eastover and the grounds (placer) on Dan Creek (n.d.).

CHRISTIAN T. PEDERSEN (1877-1969). Papers; 1920-1966. 10.5 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection consists of business records relating to various business enterprises in which Captain Pedersen was involved. Among the records are 2 small maps of Canada depicting routes through the Canadian Arctic.

PIONEERS OF ALASKA, IGLOO NO. 15. Records; 1916-1988. 9.2 cu. ft. Series Descriptions.
This collection contains the records of Pioneers of Alaska, Igloo No. 15. The graves and cemetery records (Part H, Series 1) in the collection include surveys and layout maps (10 items) of the Pioneer burial plot in the Anchorage cemetery.

POTTER SECTION HOUSE. Report and Plans; 1980, 1986. .1 cu. ft.
The collection consists of a copy of a report recommending the preservation and reuse of the Potter Section House, written by the Municipal Historic Landmarks Preservation Committee. Included in the collection are 2 site maps created by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation.

FRANK REED, SR. (b. 1912). Papers; 1920-1997. 17.1 cu. ft. Series List.
The collection consists of the personal and business papers of Frank Reed, Sr., as well as his files on Operation Breakthrough, the 1959 and 1975 Anchorage charter commissions, as well as records related to various Alaskan public policy and civic organizations. Among the various series are 14 maps of the Anchorage area. These include 8 APUC maps (1972-1974), 3 street maps (n.d., 1969, 1973), 2 small GAAB maps, and 1 Anchorage traffic map.

PHILIP AND RETTA REED. Papers; n.d. 1907, 1915-1981. 1.5 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists primarily of papers relating to Philip Reed's military service. Among the printed materials in the collection is 1 Topographic Map of the City of Anchorage (1953).

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL FOR ALASKA, INC. Gas Pipeline Files; 1974-1979. 12.2 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection primarily concerns the proposed construction of the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline. Among the reports, studies, and government documents are two volumes of maps relating to the pipeline in Alaska and Canada.

VICTOR C. RIVERS FAMILY. Papers; 1869-1873, 1915-1977. 6 cu. ft. Published guide and Series list.
The papers in this collection relate to Victor C. Rivers and various relatives. Among the papers (Series 1b), there are 2 maps relating to the Turnagain Arm Crossing and the Kenai Peninsula.

JOHN R. "JACK" RODERICK. Papers; 1900-2002. 27 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of the personal, political, and historical papers of former Anchorage mayor and author of the book, Crude Dreams: A Personal History of Oil & Politics in Alaska. Series 9 contains maps relating to geology and oil resources and development in Alaska. The series is divided into subseries for general maps, oil lease maps, and folded maps and map packets. Other locations of maps in the collections include, but are not limited to, Subseries 8k, and Series 11.

JOSEPH AND LISA RUDD. Papers; ca. 1908, 1943-1984. 27 cu. ft. Series Descriptions.
The collection is divided into three parts: the Joseph Rudd Papers; the Lisa Rudd Papers; and Maps. The Joseph Rudd Papers contain 4 maps relating to a trip to Europe, 10 maps relating to the Lost River Mining Corporation, and 3 maps relating to state mineral leasing. Part 3 of the collection contains 347 maps; these include: USGS maps; maps of D-2 lands; Alaska Railroad Maps; Alaska Division of Lands maps; maps of Alaskan cities and villages; and plans of Alaska Methodist University.

RURAL ALASKA COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM (RURALCAP). Records; 1965-1981. 100 cu. ft. Series List.
The papers in this collection consist primarily of administrative and operational records of RuralCAP. Among the papers in the Operations Files, Series 2, are 5 maps. Four of these are maps of Alaska (1957, 1968, 1971) and one is a map showing the libraries in Anchorage.

DWIGHT L. SAWYER. Fairbanks Mining District Prospecting Reports and Reference Maps; n.d., 1913, 1917, 1927, 1929-1931. .2 cu. ft.

The collection consists of the prospecting reports of California mining engineer Dwight L. Sawyer, and Alaska and British Columbia reference maps. The maps include: 1) U. S. Geological Survey geologic map and sections of the Fairbanks District, Alaska (1913), 2) U. S. Geological Survey Reconnaissance Map of the Fairbanks Quadrangle, Alaska, (1913); 3) Alaska Steamship Company Alaska Line map by the Poole Bros. of Chicago (1917); 4) U. S. Geological Survey index map of Alaska (1927); 5) Central Alaska portion of an Alaska map; 6) British Columbia Department of Lands pre-emptor's map, Prince Rupert Sheet (1929); and 7) Canada Department of Mines, Geological Survey Atlin Sheet map of British Columbia and Yukon (1930).

ETHEL M. SHAW. Scrapbook; 1937. .5 cu. ft.
This collection consists of a 74 page scrapbook compiled by Miss Ethel M. Shaw concerning her trip to the Western US, Alaska, and Canada, in July 1937. included in the album is an extensive array of tourist brochures, pamphlets, advertisements, maps and plans (10), and timetables relating to historic sites, hotels, the Canadian National Steamship Line, the Canadian National Railroad, the Santa Fe Railroad, the New York Central Line, and TWA.

JEROME F. SHELDON. Papers; n.d., 1885-1994. 9.75 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection consists of the papers of journalist Jerome F. Sheldon. Series 1, Alaska Subject Files, contains 10 maps; these include maps of British Columbia (1907), Canadian territorial road construction (1959), the Alaska 67 Centennial Exposition (ca. 1967), Kodiak (city), 6 maps of the proposed natural gas pipeline (1979-1982), and 1 of Alaska (1967). Series 2, Miscellaneous Subject Files, contains 4 maps. They are Ryland's Railway Map of Great Britain (ca. 1950s), a map of the Monterey peninsula (n.d.), and 2 Vancouver Island ferry route maps (n.d.). Series 4, Alaska Story Files, includes 1 map depicting Alascom's telecommunications facilities in Alaska.

HELEN STEVENS (1877-1968). Papers and Photographs; 1897-1951. .7 cu. ft. Photograph List.
The collection consists of the Alaska related papers and photographs of a woman who was a roving reporter for the Alaska Railroad. The collection contains a large color Alaska Steamship Company map from 1936.

JOSETTE AND WILLIAM STOLL. Papers; 1914-1987. .7 cu. ft. Series Description.
This collection contains the papers of William C. Stoll, son of Walter W. Stoll, who was General Manager of Alaska Pacific Mines from 1936-1943. The second series consists of 13 maps and plans of mining properties in the Willow Creek and Hatcher Pass mining areas. Included are Alaska Free Gold Mine Co., the Rae-Wallace claims, the Independence Mine Camp, Kelly Mine Co., and the Alaska Pacific Consolidated Mining Co. properties.

HAROLD STRANDBERG (1909-1995). Papers; 1923-1985. 8.5 cu. f t. Inventory.
The collection consists of records concerning Harold Strandberg's work as Anchorage Port Commissioner, as a state representative, and as a mining engineer. The collection is divided into three parts. The Anchorage Port Commission records contains 9 maps and plans primarily relating to port facilities and construction. The legislative papers include 1 map relating to the Fairbanks area and 3 maps concerning voting precincts. The mining papers include 28 maps and plans concerning various locations and mining operations.

STRANDBERG MINES, INC. Records; 1937-1967. 9 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection includes 105 U.S.G.S. maps relating to the company's mining interests.

BENJAMIN B. TALLEY (1903-1998). Papers; 1930-1993. 20 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection contains papers on Brig. Gen. B. B. Talley's military career, which includes among other materials, papers relating to Nicaragua, World War II, and Vietnam; files on the Alaska capital relocation effort; and papers on the oil industry in Alaska. The collection contains at least 15 maps. These include 3 copies of a 1930 map of Nicaragua; a map of Brasil (1957); a U. S. Army map of Thon Mau Tai, Vietnam (1964); 2 Oklahoma highway maps (1953, 1956); 2 maps of France (ca. 1956) and 1 of Rome (ca. 1956); 4 maps relating to capitol relocation; and 1 Alaska Petroleum Resource Map (1976).

The collection consists of personal papers and unpublished manuscript drafts of Gary Thurlow. Among the papers is 1 hand-drawn map relating to a proposed core area and separated paths in the Palmer-Wasilla area (n.d.).

UNITED STATES. ARMY. CORPS OF ENGINEERS. ALASKA FLOOD HAZARD REPORT MAP SERIES. Maps; 1965-1968. 1 cu. ft. List.
The collection consists of 34 maps of various Alaskan towns and villages prepared by the Bureau of Land Management, Division of Engineering. Many of the maps have been annotated by the Corps of Engineers to show high, average, and low flood hazard areas in each town or village. Included are maps of Ambler, Birch Creek, Chefornak, Chignik, Eagle, Egegik, Kaltag, Larsen Bay, New Koyukuk, Noatak, Nulato, Point Hope, Selawik, Stebbins, Stony River, Tununak, and others.

The collection consists of the contents of an album created by a Girdwood miner. The collection contains: a copy of a U.S. Geological Survey "Map of the Region Tributary to the Alaska Railroad Showing Geological and Mineral Deposits," with handwritten notations marking specific mines and properties; a hand-drawn map entitled, "Crude drawing of the north side of Old Glory – Crow Creek Summit."; and a hand-drawn map entitled, "Crude Drawing of Crow Creek Veins."

The collection contains the papers of Charles Sawyer Wilson, entomologist. Among the papers in the collection are 28 maps. These include 14 Alaska Water Pollution Control maps (1949), 9 Alaska Highway Sanitation Program maps (1949), a map of Anchorage and Vicinity (1951), an Alaska Highway Map (1953), a map of Fort Richardson and Elmendorf Air Force Base (1953), a Ladd Air Force Base Mosquito Control map (1959), and a map depicting the Industrial Minerals and Construction Materials in Alaska (1964).

This collection contains papers and reference material collected by Betsy and Lyman Woodman for various writing projects, and copies of articles and other publications by Betsy and Lyman Woodman. Part VI, Pipeline, contains 10 maps relating to the route of the pipeline. Part VIII, Maps and Plans, contains 29 maps of locations in Anchorage, Alaska, and Canada.
